WB to Take Harry Potter DVDs Off Shelves

DVDs

For the past few months, rumors have swirled about whether or not Warner Bros. was planning to pull the home movies of the first four Harry Potter films from shelves. WB Home Video has confirmed to Leaky that the first three films - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will go on moratorium on January 5, 2007. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will become unavailable on January 22.

Note: This moratorium is for the US only; UK details will follow shortly.

Some companies - most often Disney - do this so that better/longer/more expensive/higher quality recordings can be sold unfettered later. With the recent rumblings about the high-definition Potter DVDs (which appear to have a commentary track for the first time ever), it could be that WB is planning to remaster, beef up and re-release the first four films.

Thanks Leaky!

Sketch of Unused PoA Book Cover for Sale

A previously unseen sketch for the third Harry Potter book will go on sale today in London for 8,500 pounds sterling. Art experts estimate that the lucky buyer could re-sell the coveted piece for a five-figure sum.

The sketch's illustrator, Cliff Wright, who also drew the artwork for Books 2 and 3, commented: "In some ways I prefer the sketch to what ended up on the cover. It's more dynamic: in the final version, the hippogriff is not moving quite so fast. JK Rowling herself faxed over an image of what she thought the hippogriff should look like."

Dan sends holiday greetings to fans

Dan Radcliffe fan sites DR.com and DR.co.uk both recieved a holiday greeting from Dan telling them of his current schedule. He reveals that he is done filming OotP and tells them of other movies to be made next year:
It has been a very exciting year for me. I had a great time making 'Order of the Phoenix' and working again with Gary OIdman, and for the first time Imelda Staunton, was simply fantastic. David Yates was an inspired director who I would walk on hot coals to work with again.
As many of you know I am going on stage next year, to appear in Equus and the letters of support I have received since the announcment, from many fans have been very exciting to read. Thank you for your words of encouragement.
Later next year I will film MY BOY JACK and again am completely thrilled to be working on this fantastic and very moving script. It is going to be a very full year and I will relish every moment.

A new photo of Dan was also included in the letter (above). This letter and the new photo will be sent to anyone who writes to Dan beginning in January, 2007.

Lucius Malfoy was voted # 12 in Forbes list of wealthiest fictional characters this year, which is three places better than last year's ranking of #15. Forbes expects Mr. Malfoy's net worth to be $ 1.3 billion.

Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour reportedly increasing security outside Malfoy's cell in the wake of Dementor guard revolt, fearing escape attempt. Malfoy, unbowed, vows to return to public life: 'My race is not yet run.'" But no matter how much he has, he can't bribe his way out of Azkaban. Tough luck.

Book 7 Coming Soon????

A Harry Potter fan who works at a Barnes & Nobles book store has notified the Potter community that they have receive posters for book 7. Though the posters are vague they still give readers hope that more news will be coming soon.

Message from Barnes and Noble worker

Just to let you know, I had the joy of opening the holiday sign packages at the Barnes and Noble I work at today to discover signs for the seventh book. They're vague and I don't know an exact date, but it means that the company big wigs probably know a date on which to expect more information. So, if nothing else, it's a sign that good news should be headed our way soon. As you can see from the attached photo, the book will be sold at 40% off list price for those who pre-order. Just thought I'd send it along. Feel free to post the photo if you'd like. I know it's not really amazing news but I figured, hey, it's something.

OotP Trailer

Yesterday we posted what is believed to be a very detailed description of the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. We have now been able to discover that parts of the dialogue that were described will not be incorporated in the version that is to be released in theaters here in Canada next week before the showing of Happy Feet. We believe this teaser trailer will be more in line with this first post on the trailer - though WB has said today that that description is inaccurate. The various trailers are still being produced, and the content material will change for these alternate/extended versions at various dates. We will have more for you as it occurs.

HBO to air sneak peek of OOTP

HBO on Demand will begin to air "a sneak preview" of Order of the Phoenix on November 20th. Right now there are no other details concerning what will be included in HBO's preview, but our guess is that it could include clips from the trailer (which is being released on the 17th in front of Happy Feet).

As we reported in October, Goblet of Fire will be making its television premiere on the 19th. In association with the movie, HBO is holding a contest to win tickets to the OOTP premiere.

No time is listed on HBO's website for the OOTP sneak preview, but we will update you as soon as we find out! Thanks to Tom for the tip.
